A good café is an integral part of the community. You learn the faces (and even the names) of the baristas, they start to recall your order, and you look forward to your daily interaction — and coffee hit! Co La from Jamaica Blue loves meeting new faces and helping the community get that extra boost they need to have a good day.
Co La recommends trying a mango granita with a steak sandwich. “The granitas are so cold and refreshing, which goes perfectly with a freshly cooked steak sandwich.”
Customers are always making Co La smile with their stories, lovely feedback, and sometimes interesting orders. He’s also had a few very busy days and some very large orders!
“The biggest order that I’ve had before was on Mother’s Day 2019. That day was the busiest day ever for us so far. We had a food docket that was like 2 metres long and the queue for tables was outside. At the end of the service, everyone was happy even though they had to wait a bit longer for their meals.”
Outside of the Centre, Co La enjoys being active — in fact, he’s quite good at it! But he’d/she’d love to try a new hobby that’s a little bit more relaxing.
“My hobbies, besides cooking, are gardening, playing badminton and watching soccer. When I was in high school, I was a talented badminton player. I represented my city and competed at a national level in Vietnam! A new hobby I would love to try is enjoying a cup of coffee on a quiet and peaceful day.” Ah, we can only dream.
Co La also enjoys helping the community however he can. Through Jamaica Blue Livingston, he hosts seniors’ group meetings, mothers’ groups and regularly sponsors school events.
Jamaica Blue has a menu full of delicious breakfast and lunch items, and a cabinet with more to choose from. So, what would Co La choose if he could only pick one thing to eat for the rest of his life? “I’d choose our bacon and egg roll. It’s a classic; it’s a traditional WA breakfast, it’s quick and also yummy!”
For the perfect brekkie or lunch spot, make sure you visit Jamaica Blue Canning Vale. As Co La says, “we serve the excellent Jamaica Blue coffee, our food is cooked fresh to order and we have a great open-air atmosphere.” Plus, you’ll be supporting a locally operated business.
