As the festive season rolls in, nothing beats the smell of tasty treats baking away in the oven.

Get into the holiday spirit with this easy and delicious cooking activity that even the kids can take part in. Content creator, Tegan Porter (@tegan_jean) shares two simple and delicious Christmas time treats including her Reindeer Cupcakes and Christmas Tree Brownies. And they look as sweet as they taste!

To keep things simple and introduce kids to baking in the kitchen, use packet mixes and take them in-centre to choose their decorations.

These adorable homemade treats are the perfect way to create sweet memories together which are great gift idea for family and friends – place a few treats into a cellophane bag and close it up with a ribbon and gift tag which can be found at Woolworths.

Festive Reindeer Cupcakes

Ingredients:

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix + required ingredients
  • Cupcake cases
  • Chocolate icing
  • 24 small pretzels (antlers)
  • Red round lollies for the nose
  • Candy eyes

Method

1.       Preheat oven to package instructions and line a cupcake tray with cupcake cases.

2.       Mix ingredients needed for the cupcakes and spoon the batter into the cases and bake. Once done, allow cupcakes to cool completely.

3.       Spread some chocolate icing onto each cupcake.

4.       Add candy eyes, red lolly nose and the pretzel antlers.

Christmas Tree Brownies

Ingredients:

  • 1 box chocolate brownie mix
  • 1 tub white vanilla icing
  • Green food colouring
  • Small round sprinkles
  • Small star sprinkles

 Method:

  1. Preheat oven to package instructions.
  2. Line a baking pan with aluminium foil and spray with cooking spray.
  3. Prepare the brownie mix according to the package instructions and bake as directed.
  4. Allow brownies to completely cool.
  5. Remove the brownies from the pan and cut into triangles. You can achieve this by cutting the brownie slab into three rows, then cut in alternating diagonals.
  6. Spoon out approximately 1/2 of the tub of icing into a bowl.
  7. Add green food colouring until you’re happy with the colour.
  8. Spoon the green icing into a zip lock bag or piping bag with a star tip.
  9. Seal the bag and cut off a small corner of the bag with sharp scissors.
  10. Starting at the top of the brownie triangles, gently squeeze out the icing in a curvy zigzag as you go down the tree.
  11. Add your favourite sprinkles in any design you like. To complete the look, add a small star sprinkle at the top.
